Questions

Immigration questions, answered

General information, not legal advice. Your own case depends on its facts — ask us and we will tell you where you stand.

Can a notario help me with my immigration case?

In the United States a notario público is not a lawyer and cannot give legal advice. Only a licensed attorney or an accredited representative can advise you on your case. If someone has charged you for immigration advice without being either, bring the paperwork to us and we will tell you where your case actually stands.

What happens at a deportation hearing?

Removal cases usually start with a master calendar hearing, which is short: the judge confirms who you are, what the government is charging and what relief you intend to ask for. The individual hearing comes later and is where your case is actually argued, with evidence and witnesses. You have the right to be represented at both, and an attorney can ask for bond so you are not detained while the case runs. Missing a hearing can lead to a removal order in your absence, so tell us straight away if you cannot attend.

How long does a green card take?

It depends on which category you qualify under, whether you are applying from inside or outside the United States, and how long USCIS is currently taking with that form at that office. Those times move, so rather than quote a number, we check the official USCIS processing times for your exact case at your consultation and tell you what to expect.

Can I apply for citizenship with a criminal record?

Sometimes, but this is the question to ask before you file, not after. Naturalization requires good moral character over a set period, and some offences delay an application while others bar it or even put your current status at risk. A denied application can draw attention to a record that was not otherwise an issue. Bring every arrest and court record, including charges that were dropped, and we will tell you whether to file now, wait, or deal with the record first.

Can we talk in Spanish?

Sí. Our team is bilingual and you can handle your whole case in Spanish — the consultation, the paperwork and the calls. Hablamos español en cada paso de su caso.
